In 1930 art school was separated from the technical institute and became Kingston College of Art. Kingston became Regional college of technology in 1957. After joining of college of arts to college of technology, formed Kingston polytechnic, which was later merged with Gipsy Hill College of education in 1975, which brought educational faculty into Kingston division of educational studies.
In 1992 Kingston gained the status of university.
